Architectural design
Room acoustics. Advice on room acoustics design to achieve suitable ambient conditions, including reverberation times, inside buildings. There are both general and specific architectural design standards to consider and these depend on the intended use of the building and on the external noise climate.
External building envelope. Advice on the design of the building envelope to keep out external noise (or in some cases to keep internal noise in). Where there is significant external noise consideration must be given to the building orientation, room layout and the design of roofs, doors, glazing and passive or active ventilation.
Building interior. Design advice to ensure the internal ambient noise levels (both from inside and outside the building) and the room reverberation times are suitable for the proposed use. Selection of sound absorbent materials for the surfaces of walls, ceilings and floors. | |

Advice to architects and developers in the construction of houses and flats, both new-build and conversions. Specifications for sound insulation of the external building elements for compliance with planning conditions. Advice on the construction of internal and separating walls and floors for compliance with Regulations E1 and E2 of Building Regulations 2010 and specification of sound-absorbent materials for compliance with Regulation E3.
